Chiyayi Research Center

November 2010

I just returned from Taipei--took a couple more pics of this beautiful structure. The building is still under construction and consists of a huge quantity of Douglas Fir glulam that we pressure treated before shipping. The beams are suspended on a grouping of steel columns--the order and precision of the glulam intersect and contrast with the random array of support columns. A very cool effect. The building will house a government research center in the town of Chiyayi. Note the solar panels above the glulam grid. We also saw vertical surfaces prepped with vine starts that will make this a truly green building.
