Unearthed Korean Burial Urns

September 2010

When I saw the drawings for this project, I wasn’t sure what I was looking at! The customer was asking us to manufacture a very striking artistic sculpture out of Douglas Fir glulams. The objects can be referred to as an “Unearthed Korean Burial Urns”. This is now finished and installed in South Korea. About the production. Our mill here in the US was not able to make these radically curved members, so we asked our partner in Japan to help out. Not only were they able to manufacture, fabricate and deliver these beams to Korea, but we pressure treated each lamination BEFORE gluing, because the finished member would not fit into the treating tank. Once again, Walsh Industries was able to deliver a unique project using its network of worldwide partners. We think this structure is just downright amazing and shows the endless possibilities of wood construction. This project was completed earlier this summer.
